Sweet Madison is a 1 year old husky mix who is a recent graduate of the Fracture Program Club at UC Davis. She was found 4 months ago as a stray with two broken legs. She had surgery to fix the fractures and has finished her rehab and is ready for a loving home! Madison is a playful and energetic girl who loves her toys, long walks in the greenbelt, playing with her foster sister, and cuddling on the couch! It appears that she has been a stray most of her life, and so she is still learning to be a good citizen indoors. She is getting much better about not jumping on people and not using nipping to show her excitement, however Madison would not be well suited in a home with children. She has only had a few potty accidents in the house, but she will counter surf and chew on inappropriate things if left unattended. Thankfully, she loves her crate and does not cry if you leave her in the crate when you leave the house. She does not bark when alone, but she will husky-talk to you when she gets excited! (: Madison is also a nervous girl and will require patience as she takes time to warm up to her new people. It will likely take 3-4 weeks for her to fully adjust to her new family; she has never shown any aggression but is very wary of anything new in her environment. Once she gets used to people she is very sweet and loving, she loves cuddling on the couch with you and curling up at your feet on the bed to sleep. She is doing great at learning to walk on a leash. She is not reactive towards other people and dogs on walks, but is fearful and does not want them approaching her. She does better when walking with a confident dog buddy. She gets along great with our other 2 dogs, however she did show some reactivity when an off-leash dog approached her without her consent. She has met guinea pigs and horses with no issues, she has not yet met any cats. She is great for nail trims and brushing but does not like baths or being sprayed. She used to require sedation for car rides; she has gotten much better about this but might need some sleepy drugs from time to time to ease her anxiety. A veterinarian can help prescribe the right drugs to help her feel comfortable in anxiety-inducing situations. She would do best in a stable home with one person or a few quiet people who are willing to spend time winning her over. Once you have her trust, Madison will make someone a wonderful partner!
