UPDATE 7/28/09: Levi returned to the vet to have his eyes re-checked, he is healing fine from his surgery, however it has been determined that Levie is in fact Blind. It is truly sad that his condition is most likely caused by poor breeding. Breeding that was intentional to obtain his mostly white color. We at Big Dog Rescue believe Levi can and will have a next to normal life, living with a sighted dog as his companion. Levi has proved to us during his time here at the ranch that he is well adapted to his handicap, he noses his way in and out of doggie doors, he remembers the boundries of the play areas and enjoys life to the fullest each day. Levi a young purebred Great Dane, who was found wandering lost in Merced. When he arrived at the shelter they immediately noticed he had something terribly wrong with his eyes. The vet diagnosed him with bi-lateral entropian, a very painful condition where his eye lashes curl into his eyes, left untreated this condition can cause severe scarring and even blindness. Lifeline 4 Paws generously agreed to sponsor his surgery. He has has the surgery to correct his entropian and is doing great Levi is what you might call a gentle giant and is still growing. He so wants to play with every dog he meets, large and small. He would love to live in a home with another dog to pal around with.
